Australian Volunteers

Awaken Mozambique has at its centre, the intention to help the people of Mozambique who are creative and hardworking become self sufficient, providing them with the knowledge and skills to operate their businesses, link them with the resources of the west and provide them with an opportunity to develop a business culture that best meets the needs of their locality.

Awaken Mozambique Committee in Australia comprises of a group of eager and willing volunteers who collectively offer a vast range of skills and experience.

The Executive Committee comprises of:

Kathleen Armstrong – Chairperson

As a small business operator, consulting to SME businesses, Kathleen Armstrong of KAC Consulting has a genuine understanding of the operational challenges confronted by businesses.  Kathleen is also an experienced educator who has provided training in both Australia and the UK and more recently (September 2010) to the business people of Beira, Mozambique.   Her areas of expertise are operational improvements for SME businesses incorporating compliance and training and communication.

Dr Carol Dalglish – Secretary

Dr Dalglish is an Associate Professor at QUT, Brisbane. She has taught and consulted in Australia, England, South Africa, Europe and Asia. Her areas of expertise are leadership development, executive coaching, international issues in education and institutional development. She has published several books and many papers in these and related areas.

Dr Helen Johnson – Treasurer

An analyst at QSuper, Dr Johnson also holds a Visiting Fellow position at QUT. She has taught and consulted in Australia, and has been invited to speak at international conferences in the UK and Europe. Her areas of expertise are primarily in statistics, in both financial statistics and health statistics and she has published work in all of these areas. She is currently the President of the Queensland branch of the Statistical Society of Australia.

Helen also extends her willingness to help others as a volunteer tutor for refugees from Sudan.

The Committee is further comprised of Members with the additional skills and experiences that contribute to the ongoing development and activities of Awaken Mozambique. These skills are applied to areas of communication, administration, fund raising, training and development, legal, public relations and much more.
